Brown pine
The plant is in the yellowwood family and has foot-shaped fruits.
The brown pine is a conifer that occurs naturally only in the southern hemisphere.
The scientific name Podocarpus derives from the Greek, podo, which means foot, and carpus, which means fruit. The name is due to the fruit, consisting of one naked seed sitting on top of a fleshy, foot-shaped seed stalk.
Many species of podocarps provide valuable timber and are in sharp decline in many places due to deforestation.
