Furry spiral ginger
Each day a new flower opens, arranged in a graceful spiral along the flower spike.
The leaves of furry spiral ginger are covered in soft hairs. Try to touch them gently, and you can feel it yourself.
Spiral ginger has the flowers sitting in a cone-shaped inflorescence. Every day a new flower blooms. In this way, flowering occurs over a long period of time.
There are more than 100 species of spiral gingers. They all have leaves arranged in a slow turning spiral along the stem. In the tropical house, we have 6 different species of spiral ginger – see if you can find some of the others.
