The Gomera island spurge is a very rare plant, found only on the island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands.
It grows in rocky, subtropical habitats, often on volcanic slopes where few other species thrive. 
Because its natural range is so small, the species is considered threatened.
Despite this, it is sometimes cultivated as an ornamental plant, appreciated for its distinctive growth form.
Its fruits are capsules that split open at maturity, releasing the seeds. As in many Euphorbia species, the capsules open explosively, helping scatter the seeds
