Smallflower Century Plant
One of the world’s smallest agaves - and threatened with extinction.
The Smallflower century plant is one of the smallest Agave species in the world, and it rarely gets more than 20 cm high.
Due to its modest size and beautiful, white striped leaves, it is highly valued by plant collectors. Therefore it has been so intensively collected in the wild that it is now threatened with extinction.
For this reason it is protected by the International Washington Convention (CITES), just like i.e. ivory and tiger skins. This means that the Smallflower century plant can only be transported between countries if a special permit has been obtained.
