Aframomum

The seeds have a flavor similar to true Asian cardamom.

Aframomum has seeds that are similar in taste to cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) which is native to tropical Asia.

There are more than 50 species of Aframomum in the rain forests of Africa. One species, known as Grains of paradise (Aframomum melegueta), is cultivated. Its seeds have a strong, lemon like, peppery taste and are used as a spice.
