Fire star orchid (Epidendrum radicans) is a common roadside plant in Central America and the northern part of South America, where the species originates. It is one of more than 1,000 species in the genus Epidendrum.

The fire star orchid can grow up to 1 m tall, and its stem can reach about 1 cm in thickness. Conspicuous, thick, white aerial roots often develop along the stem. These help anchor and support the plant while also increasing its uptake of water.

In English, the orchid is also known as the crucifix orchid, because the flower's small lip (labellum) is shaped like a cross.

The species is commonly cultivated as a garden plant in tropical regions and as a houseplant in cooler climates. It is also used as a cut flower.
